Scheidgen: Hiking between Rocks and Forests

Scheidgen combines striking rock landscapes, forest paths and rural impressions with distinctive traces of local history. Those planning a trip involving outdoor activity and cultural discoveries will find various hiking options here: from an easy local path through agriculturally shaped landscapes to sections of the Mullerthal Trail. Hiking trails with different characteristics

Mullerthal Trail Route 2 can be accessed in Scheidgen. One section begins at the Veräinshaus and initially leads into the Juckebësch forest. On the way from Scheidgen to Echternach, you pass Leiwerdëlt. The route runs along a stream beside rock cliffs and continues on narrow paths through light deciduous forests. This sequence makes the trail particularly interesting for travellers who want to experience more than just one type of landscape and appreciate the change between forest, watercourse and rocks.

Another option is the Scheidgen Auto-Pédestre hiking trail. It begins and ends at the church in Scheidgen. The nearest car park for this trail is the Vereinsbau car park, 50 m from the church. The route crosses the Ponteschgronn and then passes Holschent and Kaachelskapp. Along the Deisterbach, it follows a cycle path to the Geitzebierg. An easier circular trail or a guided tour

The local C7 hiking trail is an easy route through an agriculturally shaped landscape and a typical Luxembourg village. It therefore offers a different travel focus from the narrow forest paths and rock cliffs of the Mullerthal Trail. The guided Drive & Hike tour begins its first hike in Scheidgen. This first 3 km hike passes the Einsiedelei and Härgottskapp rock formations; the tour comprises three short hikes in total. Rocks, church and local history

The Roude Léiw rock is located in the Ponteschgronn. An upright lion and an inverted triangle bearing the names of three residents of Scheidgen are carved into the Roude-Léiw rocks. The engravings were created in 1939 as a tribute by residents of Scheidgen to mark the centenary of Luxembourg's independence. A memorial plaque in the Ponteschgronn also commemorates tourism pioneer Fred Welter (1921–1973), who was from Scheidgen.

The Church of St Matthew is also part of the village's historic character. It was built between 1880 and 1890 and is dedicated to Saint Matthew. Scheidgen itself is a relatively young village whose origins date back to the 18th century. Alrodeschhaff farm was entered as a nationally protected cultural object by a decision of the Government Council dated 7 January 2022. Together, these places and points of interest form a destination where nature experiences and history have equal space.

Exploring the area by bicycle

The Rocky Route is also interesting for active trip planning. It initially leads north from Scheidgen and at first follows the national PC 2 cycle path. The route begins and ends at the Hotel de la Station in Scheidgen.
