Waldbillig: Hiking, Mills and Village Culture

Schiessentümpel and Heringer Mill

One of the notable experiences is the Schiessentümpel, which is part of Luxembourg’s cultural and tourism heritage. The sandstone bridge at the Schiessentümpel was built in 1879. At the watercourse, the bridge, or rather the middle of the Black Ernz, forms the municipal boundary between Waldbillig and Consdorf. From the Heringer Mill, the Schiessentümpel can be reached on foot via the local W6 and W7 hiking trails after approximately 1 km. The approximate distance serves as a concrete reference point for planning the day.

The Heringer Mill itself is a restored 17th-century mill and houses a small mill museum. It provides information about the surrounding hiking trails and sights in the region. The old mill wheel is still turning, and traditional mill bread is baked on site in an old stone oven. This makes it possible to combine a day of hiking with a cultural and culinary visit. The large Heringer Mill adventure playground has a water play area and a climbing area; parking spaces and toilets are also available there.
