Artimino combines impressive evidence from many centuries with its Borgo di Artimino. The Borgo di Artimino preserves its intact medieval layout, while an ancient clock tower marks the entrance to the borgo. Art and history in the borgo

A particular highlight is the Pieve di San Leonardo. Its original Romanesque layout probably dates from the second half of the 10th century; the church lies 230 metres above sea level. Inside is a polychrome terracotta group depicting the Visitation from the Della Robbia school.

The Villa Medicea La Ferdinanda was commissioned by Ferdinando I as a residence for himself and his guests during the hunting seasons. The design was entrusted to the court architect Bernardo Buontalenti, and the building was completed between 1596 and 1600. Today, the villa is also known as „Villa dei cento camini“ because its roof bears numerous chimneys, each with a different design. In June 2013, Villa Medicea La Ferdinanda was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Archaeological traces and a museum visit

The Museo Archeologico di Artimino opened on 26 March 2011 as its new location in the former wine-cellar rooms of the Fattoria di Artimino in the Borgo di Artimino. Seasonal opening hours apply: from 1 March to 31 October, the museum is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 09:30 to 13:30, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 09:30 to 13:30 and from 15:00 to 18:00. From 1 November to 28 February, it is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 09:30 to 13:30 and from 14:00 to 16:00. Openings for groups of 15 or more are possible on request.

The older history of the area includes the Etruscan necropolis of Prato Rosello. It is characterized by tumulus-shaped tombs and dates from the late 8th to the 6th century BC. The area around Artimino also contains several historically significant destinations: Villa di Bibbiani is a palace in the immediate vicinity, while Da Bobo All'acciaiolo is an ancient site in the surrounding area. Fiorelli Palace and Palazzo Pretorio are also palaces in the area around Artimino.
