Cinigiano: Village History and Wine Tradition
Cinigiano combines a wine-making tradition with medieval village history. Around Cinigiano, Mediterranean maquis, forests, pastures, vineyards, olive groves and centuries-old chestnut trees alternate. The Montecucco Wine and Flavour Trail runs through the village. It connects farms and wineries where visitors can taste wines, oils and other agricultural products. Wine, oil and other products are therefore just as much part of the local character as the landscape and the medieval history of the village.
Trails and landscapes around Cinigiano
Seven trails can be explored in the Poggio all'Olmo Nature Reserve. The Itinerario dei panorami begins in Cinigiano and leads past the new viewing terrace in the oldest part of the village.
Medieval traces in the village
The Cinigiano clock tower stands in Piazza Marconi, in the centre of the medieval village. Cinigiano developed around a medieval castle, of which only a few remains survive. Piazza Marconi and the castle ruins mark distinct, specific sites in the history of the village.
Wine and festivals throughout the year
The Festa dell'Uva takes place in Cinigiano every year in autumn, between the end of September and the beginning of October. During the festival weekend, visitors can watch a parade with floats. The floats symbolise Cinigiano's three districts. Visitors can also visit nearby wineries to discover and taste the region's typical wines. For those interested in culture, the weekend combines the parade with regional wine traditions. The festival takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October and is therefore part of autumn in Cinigiano.
