Giovi-Ponte Alla Chiassa Between the Arno and History

Giovi is a historic place of great value overlooking the Arno. At the same time, Giovi is one of the area's historic centres. The Arno forms the landscape's point of reference, while Giovi provides the historical starting point.

T-Rafting on the Arno

For T-rafting, the route follows a little-frequented section of the Arno, away from the main tourist routes and surrounded by natural scenery. The activity is suitable for groups of friends and beginners alike. It allows you to explore a section of the river from the footbridge at Borgo a Giovi to Castelluccio. The two endpoints give the tour a clear direction, while the natural surroundings remain a defining part of this stretch of the Arno.

Bridge Remains and the Festa al Vecchio Ponte

A preserved Roman bridge pier is the only remaining relic of the old bridge, which was destroyed by explosions during the Second World War. The Festa al Vecchio Ponte takes its name from the remains of a Romanesque stone bridge that remain in the Torrente Chiassa. The area therefore contains a single bridge pier and remains in the water representing two different historical traces.

The Torrente Chiassa and Its Cascades

The Torrente Chiassa also shapes the landscape. One of the most beautiful sections lies between the districts of Giovi and Ponte alla Chiassa and includes small cascades. These small cascades are therefore among the Chiassa's distinctive landscape features, giving it its own water-related character alongside the rafting route.

Sentiero natura F as a Former Walking Route Concept

The Sentiero natura F was equipped with signs, direction markers and explanatory information. A walk along the Sentiero natura F led from the area of the Circolo ricreativo di Giovi towards Ponte alla Chiassa. The route concept combined orientation features with stops at old mills. Unlike T-rafting, the focus here is not the route on the water, but a walk with stops at old mills.

Old Mills and Former River Use

A walk along the Sentiero natura F included stopping points at old mills that once used the river's energy. The stops connected the walk with the river's former use as an energy source. In this way, the route gained not only orientation value but also a specific connection to the local use of mills.

Grifi and the Local Festival Tradition

Grifi are also part of the Festa al Vecchio Ponte. Grifi are among the traditional dishes associated with the festival. This culinary connection therefore stands alongside the name of the Festa, which refers to the Romanesque stone bridge remains in the Torrente Chiassa.
