Lodine lies on the edge of a plateau about 900 metres high, surrounded by dense forests, natural granite formations and springs. Lake Gusana is also part of the town’s landscape: Lodine shares it with Gavoi, and the reservoir lies between Mount Littederone and Nodu sos Arcos. Giovanni, as well as large parts of the area around Lodine covered by downy oak forests. From this piazza, the water, mountain ranges and woodland can all be seen together.

Archaeological traces around Lodine

Near Lodine’s piazza stands the single-tower Nuraghe de sas Trintas Battaglias, which is also known as Lodine. The archaeological area of Soroeni comprises the remains of a nuraghe and a surrounding village inhabited from the Late Bronze Age to the Iron Age. The necropolis of Uniai contains six of the eleven underground tombs in the entire Lodine area.

Festivals, art and ecclesiastical history in Lodine

The Santuario della Madonna d'Itria lies on the Pratobello plateau; celebrations featuring a novena and horse races take place there at the end of July. For twenty years, Lodine has hosted the ArteLodine art and music event, which has brought characteristic Serrandales and other high-quality works of art to the town. The Church of San Giorgio in Lodine dates from the 16th century. Carnival in Lodine is characterised by improvised poetry.
