Holiday apartment in San Raffaele: forest trails, memorial park and local products
Accommodation in San Raffaele
San Raffaele combines the Parco della Rimembranza with trails through forest and cultivated landscapes, as well as regional products from San Raffaele Cimena.
Sentiero 90, Sentiero 96 and Sentiero 94: forest trails and cultivated areas
Sentiero 90 is a circular trail that leads through wooded areas, orchards and cultivated areas to the Tetti Dematteis. Sentiero 96 has a different character: it runs mostly along unpaved paths through woodland. Sentiero 94 also passes through a section of forest and then descends into the village of San Raffaele. For planning a day trip, the routes differ specifically in terms of surface and sequence of landscapes: Sentiero 96 is mostly unpaved and runs through woodland, Sentiero 90 through orchards and cultivated areas, and Sentiero 94 descends into the village of San Raffaele.
Cappella di San Defendente, Valle Baudana and Piana
Sentiero 91 leads to the Cappella di San Defendente. On the descent, it partly follows an old municipal road and partly a private path. Sentiero 93 begins at the cemetery of San Raffaele, descends into the Valle Baudana and then climbs again via Via Fontanino. Sentiero 95 reaches the village centre of San Raffaele and then continues along Strada Provinciale No. 99 to Piana. For planning a day trip, the destinations are not the only differences here: Sentiero 91 leads to the Cappella di San Defendente, Sentiero 93 descends into the Valle Baudana and climbs back up via Via Fontanino, and Sentiero 95 runs from the village centre via Strada Provinciale No. With Sentiero 91, the descent is also divided by the change from an old municipal road to a private path.
Parco della Rimembranza and historic trails
The Parco della Rimembranza was built between 1926 and 1928 on the ruins of the ancient “Castlàss”. The park contains cypresses with plaques commemorating those who fell. In the municipal area of San Raffaele Cimena, there are also old roads, cart tracks, mule tracks and paths that are now considered historical and naturalistic trails.
Strawberries, Cimenella, rice cultivation and encounters with animals
The strawberries of San Raffaele Cimena were classified as traditional products by the Piedmont Region pursuant to D.M. 350/99. The potatoes of San Raffaele Cimena are called “Cimenella”. Another aspect is offered by the Fattoria Didattica of Tenuta Cimena: it provides children, schools and families with educational activities and entertainment centred on the tradition of rice cultivation, as well as encounters with animals.
