Hiking trails for different day plans

The fifth stage of the Sentieri Resistenti leads from the lower Val di Viù to the watershed between the lower Val di Viù and the lower Val di Susa. After around five hours, it reaches Colle del Lys and the mountain refuge there. Eight Sentieri di Memoria are also signposted at Colle del Lys, with memorial plaques and information boards.

Another option is the 12.5-kilometre circular hike to Uja di Calacante from Fubina. The route reaches a summit at an altitude of 1,615 metres. In the Parco Naturale del Colle del Lys, an old network of paths and mule tracks winds through the landscape. The Vallone di Lunella and Vallone dei Tornetti offer repeatedly tested equestrian tourism routes; it is possible to cross the ridge into Val d’Ala.

Local trails, villa and local speciality

The Le Borgate di Viù circular trail begins at the Parrocchiale di San Martino and leads behind the town along a short old paved path to the park of Villa Franchetti. The park can be reached on foot via a staircase starting from Via Luigia near Piazza XXIV Maggio. The Parrocchiale di San Martino is considered the largest church in the Valli di Lanzo.

To round things off, the circular trail recommends an aperitif with a tasting of michetta viucese, a typical local product.

Cultural history in the heart of Viù

The Museo Diffuso di Arte Sacra displays a 17th-century depiction of the Ostensione della Sindone from the chapel in the Venera district. One room of the museum is dedicated to historic liturgical objects. In 2017, the second site of the Museo Diffuso di Arte Sacra was opened in Viù; this site is dedicated to history.

Villa Franchetti is also one of the historic villas in Viù that were built or remodelled around the middle of the 19th century. On Piazza del Mercato, the Pietra delle Madri is considered a Celtic stone dating from the 3rd century BC.

Natural features and distinctive landscapes

The room on the first floor of the Ecomuseo della Resistenza "Carlo Mastri" hosts temporary exhibitions as well as archival, audio, video and bibliographic materials. The exhibition space usually houses a photographic exhibition about the partisans of the 17th Garibaldi Brigade. The Ecomuseo also presents the geological feature of the Parco Naturale del Colle del Lys known as "Fiumi di roccia", as well as the endemic plant Euphorbia gibelliana.

From the Tornetti district, the 2,390-metre-high Ciarm del Prete overlooks an impressive natural amphitheatre. Fishing is permitted as a leisure activity in the various streams of Viù, provided the required permits have been obtained.
