History and religious buildings
In Borgata Castello, northwest of Val della Torre at the foot of the mountain, stands the Cappella di San Martino. Its rectangular layout is divided into two naves. The Chiesa di San Donato Vescovo e Martire was built between 1687 and 1723 in Baroque forms. It houses a wooden statue of Saint Donatus dated 1763, a work by the sculptor Stefano Maria Clemente.
The Chiesa di Santa Maria della Spina is of Romanesque-Gothic origin and was consecrated on 30 December 1283. It was formerly a monastery belonging to the abbey of the same name; the abbey was dissolved in December 1601.
Hiking trails with varied views
Several trails lead through different elevations and landscapes for nature experiences. Sentiero 004 reaches the Madonna della Bassa sanctuary at an altitude of 1,152 metres and offers panoramic views of the sanctuary and across the entire Casternone Valley. Its first section passes through a beech forest, then crosses a scree slope partly colonised by pioneer plants. Sentiero 018 runs along a long panoramic traverse above the Val della Torre basin, the surrounding mountains, the hills around Turin and the plain below.
Sentiero 011 leads from Borgata Bussoneis via Madonna della Bassa to Monte Arpone at an altitude of 1,600 metres. The route is 5.7 kilometres long, has 980 metres of ascent, takes about three hours and is rated difficulty level E. The Anello Ceronda Mountain Bike is an approximately 80-kilometre circular cycling and hiking route. It runs through the Ceronda and Casternone valleys and climbs to the technical trails around Colle del Lys. The different route lengths and levels of difficulty make it easier to find your way between shorter discoveries and extended active days.
Cycling, nature and local tradition
The natural side includes the Zona Speciale di Conservazione Monte Musinè e Laghi di Caselette, which extends across the municipalities of Almese, Caselette, San Gillio and Val della Torre. A culinary highlight was provided by the Sagra del Salame di Cinghiale, which took place on 30 March 2025 in its 20th edition.
