Hill Trails and Routes around Marentino

The Cammino di Don Bosco circular route connects Marentino, Montaldo Torinese and Pavarolo. It is 12.40 km long, passes through hilly terrain and is classified as a hiking route of “escursionistica” difficulty. Via strada del Pozzetto near Casa Zuccala, this circular route leads into Marentino.

The Cammino Romanico Mombello di Torino–Marentino–Andezeno is approximately 9 km long and is also classified as a hiking route of “escursionistica” difficulty. The Marentino–Andezeno circular route begins at the Romanesque church of Santa Maria, which in Marentino is also known as “Santa Maria dei Morti”. A connecting path from Santa Maria di Marentino passes through Avuglione to the hamlet of Tetti Chiaffredo.

The middle Cammino di Don Bosco, the route around Lago di Arignano, passes through Marentino and forms part of a route that is 50.9 km long overall, with 1,054 metres of ascent. Lago di Arignano lies on the border between Arignano and Marentino. The wetland is home to resident and migratory birds.

Art, Churches and Special Discoveries

The Church of the Assumption of Mary has a two-part façade with Ionic pilasters, an oval rose window and a triangular pediment. The apse contains stained-glass windows depicting Saint Bartholomew and Saint Cecilia. There is also a 19th-century altarpiece that is a copy of Guido Reni’s “Assumption of the Virgin”.

The “Muri d’arte in rebus” project presents local landscapes, nature, traditions and memories as rebuses painted on walls. The murals can be discovered on an artistic puzzle walk through the streets of Marentino.

Casa Zuccala is a listed building of historical and artistic interest in Marentino. It is considered an example of the Piedmontese bourgeois country residences of the 17th and 18th centuries. These country residences are known as “vigne”. The rooms are available for exhibitions, cultural events and tastings of Piedmontese food and wine products. The 22 rooms on the upper floors also house the “Centro Studi per la valorizzazione dell’Arredamento Piemontese”, as well as furnishings and furniture illustrating styles from the 17th century to the mid-19th century.

The Chapel of Santa Maria Assunta is also known as “dei Morti”; it was built in the 12th century and preserves surviving frescoes in the apse. The fresco scenes are by Guglielmetto Fantini, who worked there in the first half of the 15th century. Through its depictions of Saint Christopher and Saint James, both patron saints of pilgrims, the chapel is connected with the medieval Via Francigena.

In Avuglione stands the Baroque church of Santa Maria Maddalena, built between the 17th and 18th centuries on the site of an earlier religious building. Its furnishings include an organ dating from 1878 with 339 pipes. The Church of San Giorgio in Vernone stands next to Vernone Castle; the present-day church was rebuilt in 1744.

Honey, Bees and Piedmontese Flavours

The experimental beekeeping site in Marentino comprises four beehives in a protective structure that allows them to be observed and studied. La Casa delle Api is an information, tourism and educational centre for visits supervised by the staff of the Ente Parco Visite Superga.

In Marentino, chestnut, acacia, millefiori and dandelion honey are among the varieties produced. The Fiera del Miele takes place on the last Sunday in September and includes stalls selling regional food and local handicrafts. The 31st edition of the Fiera del Miele di Marentino is scheduled for Sunday, 27 September 2026.

Practical Times for Cultural Sites

Visits to the cemetery church of Santa Maria Maddalena are limited to the cemetery’s opening hours. On Sundays, a service is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption of Mary.
