Strambinello: Discover Castello, Chiusella and Alta Via

Strambinello on the edge of the Pedanea

Strambinello lies on the western edge of the Pedanea. The old road through the village runs along the gently sloping side of a moraine flank. As a result, the topographical form remains directly connected to the old road and the settlement's location.

Paths to the Chiusella, the waterfall and Valle di Chj

At Strambinello's western road fork, the paths branch off towards different landscape features. One turn leads down to the Chiusella, another uphill to the Gusse waterfall, and a third to the entrance of Valle di Chj. For planning the day, the western road fork is the specific point where the three directions diverge. The choice between going downhill, uphill or taking the third turn concerns a separate stretch of path in each case.

Traces of landscape and geological history

Near Strambinello, the Chiusella exposes fossilised remains of marine molluscs from the Tertiary in Pliocene sediment layers. The layers are two to five metres thick.

Ponte dei Preti: route and construction history

Ponte dei Preti can be crossed by car or on foot; access by car is limited to vehicles weighing no more than 8 tonnes. The upper bridge was built in 1788 according to a design by the architect Michelangelo Pelazza. The weight limit applies to access by car; this restriction does not apply to crossing on foot. The combination of the weight limit and the option of crossing on foot makes the choice of how to cross a specific planning consideration.

Hiking along the Alta Via

The Alta Via dell'Anfiteatro Morenico di Ivrea crosses the Ponte dei Preti bridge to Strambinello and then follows Via Alleu there. Near a medieval tower, it turns onto Via Selva. When preparing a hike, the bridge crossing, Via Alleu, Via Selva and the medieval tower can be included as successive points of orientation.

Castello and private property

Castello di Strambinello was built as a strategic outpost oriented towards the other castles of the Pedanea, including Parella, Loranzè and Pramonico. It can be reached via S.S. 565 di Castellamonte; access by car is permitted. As it is private property, contacting them by telephone is recommended. For planning a visit, the access route, private status and telephone contact should therefore all be taken into account together.

Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant'Ilario Vescovo

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant'Ilario Vescovo can be reached by road; a staircase leads down from the car park. For planning a visit, the road, car park and staircase therefore form a sequence of arrival, stopping and then walking.
