Historic Bargni between fortifications and churches

Bargni is considered one of the fortified settlements in the region and was probably established shortly before the year 1000. Federico da Montefeltro conquered Bargni in 1462. The Chiesa della Santa Trinità dates from the 16th century and was built on the site of an ancient tower. It therefore reflects both the religious history of the village and an older architectural past.

The Chiesa di Santa Apollonia is also known as the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Misericordia. It is a 16th-century church outside the walls of Bargni and has long been deconsecrated. Villa Serafini is a 19th-century villa in Bargni where General Bernardino Serafini was born. In addition to the village’s history, this reveals different historical periods: a fortified settlement, 16th-century churches and a 19th-century villa form part of Bargni’s traditional image.

Special experiences and local programmes

In spring and summer, Villa Federici opens the gates to its historic park for the bookable experience “Picnic d'Autore”; places are limited.

“Assalto ai Borghi” returned in summer 2026 after several successful previous editions and took place on five consecutive Thursdays from 2 July 2026 to 30 July 2026, including in Bargni on 16 July. During the stop in Bargni on 16 July 2026, visitors could experience a route through specialities of the local tradition. The 2024 programme of “Assalto ai Borghi” also included a playful cultural exploration of the village and its distinctive features, accompanied by historical figures such as knights, ladies and storytellers. The two programme formats therefore have different focuses: “Picnic d'Autore” is tied to a historic park and requires a reservation, while “Assalto ai Borghi” presented Bargni through a fixed event date, local specialities and a storytelling-based exploration of the village.

Valley views and trails through the landscape

A cycling and walking route runs through the villages of Pozzuolo and Bargni along tracks laid out on the ridges to Palazzo del Balì and then down to Saltara. The route connects several villages and does not end in Bargni; instead, it continues via Palazzo del Balì to Saltara. In addition, “Escursione intorno a Bargni” is described as a hike around Bargni. Alongside the historic buildings, two differently named forms of exploring the landscape are therefore associated with Bargni: a route connecting several villages and a hike around the village.
