Nature and Landscapes

The Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini reaches an elevation of 2,476 metres at Monte Vettore. The Parco Naturale del Monte San Bartolo is characterised by a high cliff coast with an active cliff shoreline, which is rare along the entire Adriatic coast. It combines a sea cliff with a rural landscape on the inland side.

The Frasassi Caves are open to tourists all year round, except for a few days in January. The Grotte di Frasassi offer speleological routes suitable for visitors. The Parco Zoo Falconara is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Marche.

Culture and History

The historic centre of Urbino has preserved its Renaissance appearance to a remarkable extent. The Renaissance walls of Urbino are almost completely intact and enclose the Ducal Palace, the cathedral, the Santa Chiara monastery and historic oratories.

The Teatri Storici delle Marche comprise 62 historic indoor theatres built between 1600 and 1930. These theatres continue to preserve their essential structural, decorative and functional characteristics.

In the immediate surroundings of Marche are the Pianetti Palace, the Museo "a. Colocci", Colocci Palace, the Palazzo della Signoria, the natural arch Clementine Arch, Parco Del Ventaglio and Parco Dell'esedra.

The Grande Via del Parco in the Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini is a route of more than 190 kilometres along existing roads, accessible by car, motorcycle and motorhome. The same national park offers 17 major routes for discovering its landscapes and nature.

The numerous cycle paths in Marche run along the main river valleys and cross the region from east to west. The mountains and streams of Marche offer opportunities for winter sports, mountaineering, snow hiking, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, free flight, caving and canyoning. The nature of Marche also provides opportunities for cycling tourism, golf, horse riding and sailing.

Regional Specialities

The protected designation of origin Oliva Ascolana del Piceno refers to preserved or stuffed olives of the Ascolana Tenera variety. In the administrative territory of the municipality of Campofilone (Fm), egg pasta is produced that differs from other pasta through its particularly thin dough sheet and very fine cut.
