Nature on the Kontyvirág Nature Trail

The 3.5 km Kontyvirág Nature Trail in Lakitelek-Tőserdő is marked in yellow and laid out as a loop. Information boards line the route, which lets visitors explore a former river channel and floodplain forest. The landscape around the trail is shaped by the Szikrai and Alpári oxbow lakes, as well as the surrounding floodplain and swamp forests, floodplain marshes and wet meadows. Together, the waterways, forest and wetlands are at the heart of the nature experience. The nature trail is impassable during major floods.

Science and history

At the Hungarikum Exhibition House, visitors can explore the world of natural sciences interactively. For stargazing, it has a modern planetarium, Hungary’s eighth stargazing facility. This gives the exhibition a different focus from the nature trail: here, the emphasis is on the natural sciences and looking up at the stars, while the trail focuses on the former river channel and floodplain forest.

The historical themes also offer different perspectives. The carvings on the Leader's stone yurt depict important events in Hungarian history, from the Avar period to Hungary’s accession to the EU. St. Stephen’s Chapel was built on a secular rather than ecclesiastical initiative. Since June 2000, the Christian Pantheon in the square in front of the chapel has commemorated martyrs and believers from the historic churches of the Carpathian Basin. While the carvings span a long period of history, the chapel and pantheon focus on religious remembrance.

Riding lessons, footgolf and nature knowledge

For an active outing, Vaspatkó Riding Stable offers individual riding lessons in the afternoons to both external visitors and hotel guests. The Nimród Footgolf Park has an 18-hole footgolf course across 7.5 hectares. Its nature trail complements the sporting theme with history and nature: visitors can learn more about the people who lived here, as well as the flora and fauna of the Alföld landscape. This makes it possible to see physical activity and learning as different aspects of Lakitelek without equating them.
