Discover Felsőlajos
Accommodation in Felsőlajos
Felsőlajos brings together two very different themes: the Tájház focuses on traditional peasant architecture and old household objects; in the Magán Zoo forest, trees and their seasonal changes shape the experience. Anyone interested in the history of domestic life will find a tangible place to explore here. Those who mainly want to experience the changing natural world can take their cues from the described sights and scents of spring and autumn.
The Tájház: Architecture and Everyday Life
The Tájház is in the centre of Felsőlajos, at 11 Iskola utca. The two-room house with a veranda was built around 1920–1930. It preserves features of the smallholder architecture of the surrounding region and displays old household objects. The architecture and everyday objects complement one another: the house illustrates a style of building, while the objects draw attention to items used in daily life. This makes it possible to understand the place not only through its age, but also through its rooms and preserved features.
The interior of the Tájház can be visited free of charge by prior arrangement. Alternatively, you can visit during the opening hours of the library, information and community centre, by arranging your visit on site. When planning, it is therefore important to consider which of these two booking options you would like to use; check the latest visitor information locally in advance. The visits are recorded as having begun on 17 August 2002.
Acacias and Hawthorn in the Magán Zoo
The Magán Zoo forest consists mainly of acacias; poplars, birches and other tree species also grow there. In spring, when the acacias bloom, the entire park is filled with an intense floral fragrance. The grounds also contain an old stand of hawthorn, which is particularly striking in autumn. Spring and autumn thus offer different highlights: the focus is on the scent of the acacia blossoms in spring, and on the old hawthorn stand in autumn. When planning your trip, these seasonal experiences can help you decide which natural feature to make the focus of your visit.
Cultural Themes Elsewhere in the Bács-Kiskun Destination
Other places in the wider Bács-Kiskun destination offer a variety of cultural highlights. In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár educational trail presents the history of the Bronze Age fortification of Tiszaalpári Földvár and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. Tiszaalpári Földvár is a specially protected archaeological site in Bács-Kiskun; its designation was made under Regulation 3/2003. (I. 25.) NKÖM. Also in Tiszaalpár, a reconstruction of an Árpád-era village, built to mark the millennium, depicts the settlement layout discovered during local excavations.
Visitors can explore cultural history from a different perspective at the Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház and Csipkemúzeum: they can learn about the history of Halas lace, which began in 1902, admire lacework dating back centuries, and see the lace-making process. In Kecskemét, the Cifrapalota currently serves as an exhibition venue for the Kecskeméti Katona József Museum. These examples differ considerably from the focus of the Tájház in Felsőlajos: they take visitors from Bronze Age history and an Árpád-era settlement reconstruction to lace-making and a museum exhibition venue.
Choose a Holiday Rental to Suit Your Interests
Local attractions can help you choose a holiday rental in Felsőlajos: the Tájház combines a historic house with insights into smallholder architecture and everyday objects, while the Magán Zoo offers different seasonal experiences of acacias and hawthorn. Consider which of these highlights you would like to shape your trip more. The regional cultural examples in Bács-Kiskun also offer further themes, without being equated with the two local attractions.
