The Wälder im Süderhackstedtfeld protected area is described as a 76-hectare FFH site with deciduous woodland on an old moraine ridge gently sloping southwards at the edge of the Arlau lowlands. Several partly endangered forest communities can be found there.
Surroundings
Kleinjörl is described as being 2 km from Süderhackstedt and having a Markttreff shop, a bakery and a bank. Eggebek, Tarp, Jübek, Treia and Viöl are described as larger nearby centres at a distance of around 10 km; Flensburg, Schleswig and Husum are each approximately 25 km away.
Nature
The Rimmelsberg dune and the Pobüller Bauernholz are designated nature reserves; a juniper landscape is mentioned for the Rimmelsberg. The Treene has a meandering riverbed and is fed by the tributaries Jerrisbek and Jörlau.
The Treenerundtour runs through extensive forests, meadows and fields and repeatedly reaches the Treene.
Culture
The Grünes Binnenland contains traces and signs of cultural history and German-Danish history. The Heimatmuseum Wanderup presents the development of villages and agriculture over the past hundred years.
The core of today's St. Petrus Church in Eggebek dates from around 1200. It is a single-nave Romanesque brick church.
Things to do
The Eggebek administrative district offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, horse riding and canoeing. The area has an extensive network of cycle paths for recreational cycling tours. Together, the Stapelholmer Weg and the Ochsenweg support multi-day cycling tours through the region.
Süderhackstedt is included in the 25-km Treenerundtour. The Treenerundtour is a circular route that can be started at any point.
The route uses different surfaces, such as farm tracks, concrete agricultural roads and asphalt, and runs predominantly along lightly trafficked roads and agricultural paths. The published Treenerundtour is currently not signposted.
In summer, the Treene can be navigated by canoe from the launch site in Langstedt.
