The Büdelsdorf Iron Art Casting Museum presents around 180 exhibits on cast iron, artistic iron casting and the cultural history of the material in the 19th century.
Kunstwerk Carlshütte hosts exhibitions, concerts, readings, theatre performances and film screenings. NordArt has taken place annually during the summer months since 1999.
The NordArt grounds include 22,000 square metres of exhibition space in the foundry halls of Carlshütte as well as an 80,000-square-metre sculpture park. The concert hall in the ACO Thormannhalle has room for 1,200 listeners.
History
Founded in 1827, Carlshütte was the first industrial enterprise in Schleswig and Holstein. A bridge cast by Carlshütte in 1834 is a historic feature on the Carlshütte grounds. In addition, two megalithic tombs from Büdelsdorf’s prehistoric settlement can still be seen.
Nature
The Hollersche Anlagen are a high forest of oak and beech trees planted between 1840 and 1850 on the southern edge of Büdelsdorf towards the Eider. They cover approximately 16 hectares between Am Friedrichsbrunnen and Wollinstraße. The multi-layered forest features considerable diversity of trees, shrubs and ground vegetation.
The viewpoint at Audorfer See in Büdelsdorf is freely accessible at all times. From there, visitors can look out over the Kiel Canal and the Eider where the two meet.
Paths and Water
The towpath runs as a hiking trail along the banks of the Eider through the Hollersche Anlagen. It is a meeting place for hikers, cyclists and nature lovers. By the water is the Fährhaus - Hollersche Anlagen in Büdelsdorf, with a café and canoe rental.
Since the 2006 bathing season, the Büdelsdorf Natural Outdoor Pool has been operated as a completely biological natural bathing facility.
Getting There
The NordArt grounds can be reached from the A7 via the Rendsburg/Büdelsdorf exit and then by travelling approximately 3 kilometres along the B203 to Vorwerksallee.
Public access to the Carlshütte grounds is provided via Rendsburg railway station as well as bus connections to Büdelsdorf and Carlshütte.
