Nature

The North Frisian Wadden Sea National Park is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Wadden Sea is shaped by tides and storm surges, provides a habitat for numerous animals and serves as a resting place for migratory birds.

History

Galmsbüll was once a Hallig outside the Marienkoog. Repeated storm surges gradually reduced its size before the Hallig was abandoned in the direction of the polders.

Culture

The architectural tradition includes typical Uthland Frisian houses and large polder farms, some of which are designated as protected monuments. The church in Neugalmsbüll contains rare sgraffito plasterwork on the inside. St. Gallus in Neugalmsbüll is dedicated to the Irish monk St. Gallus. The church's chandeliers and communion vessels come from former Hallig churches.

The Grüner Weg leads past the former mill site at the Mühlendeich and Feddershafen. Grain from the fertile polders was shipped from there.

Things to Do

The North Sea Coast Cycle Route is considered Galmsbüll's best-known cycling route. Galmsbüll's cycle paths can also be used for walking; this includes a loop along the outer dike. Swimming opportunities are available just outside the municipal boundaries of Galmsbüll.
