Husum: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Husum is a place where the North Sea reaches right into the town. The town is directly connected to the national park and the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea; the Husum National Park House is located directly at Husum harbour.

Nature

A walking trail of around 8 km leads from the National Park House at Husum harbour to the landing stage in Schobüll, a district of Husum. The route connects the harbour, meadows and birdlife with unobstructed views of the North Sea beyond the dike. At Husum harbour, visitors can experience the harbour at low or high tide. Boat trips from Husum include excursions to seal banks and crab-fishing trips; Husum harbour is also a place to enjoy crab rolls or Frisian cake.

The North Frisian coast and the adjacent inland areas near Husum support birdwatching all year round. Nearby, the Husum Bay area offers a well-developed network of cycle paths with predominantly flat routes.

Culture

The Ostenfeld Farmhouse is Germany’s oldest open-air museum. It presents rural everyday and working culture through traditional interiors, tools and household objects. The grounds include a farm garden with boxwood-edged beds, herbs, ornamental plants and old apple trees.

The Nordfriesland Museum Nissenhaus illustrates cultural developments and traditions on the North Sea coast. The Theodor Storm Centre combines an archive and museum in Theodor Storm’s last home in Husum. Several museums in Husum address whaling and fishing, shipbuilding and navigation, the history of the sunken settlement of Rungholt, and literary connections with the writer Theodor Storm.

St Mary’s Church is considered one of the most significant examples of Neoclassical architecture in Schleswig-Holstein. Husum Castle houses a museum with a gallery in the attic. In spring, more than 4 million crocuses transform the park surrounding Husum Castle into a lilac-coloured natural spectacle.

The Husum Cultural Trail explains its stops with information boards. Guided city tours are available in Husum all year round, including guided walks and night watchman tours.
