Bordelum: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Bordelum’s Stollberg area combines extensive woodland, the Stollberg nature experience area and the Bordelumer and Langenhorner Heide nature reserve, where an educational heath trail has been established; the western side of the municipality is marshland.

Nature

Stollberg is a starting point for exploring central North Frisia on foot or by bicycle. The 28-kilometre circular route around Stollberg begins at Stollberg near Bordelum and is classified as easy. The visitor route starts on the 44-metre-high Stollberg. From there, extensive views stretch across the polders to the islands and Halligen. The 44-metre-high Stollberg also offers views across the landscape and the nearby Halligen. Interpretation points at Halligblick and on the Stollberg slope explain coastal change and early settlement.

History and Culture

St. Nikolai zu Bordelum stands in an open field outside the village. Its choir has a Late Gothic vault, the nave contains Renaissance elements, and the church has a free-standing bell tower. The present bell house dates from 1793 and contains a bell cast in 1718. The altar apse and the church’s Romanesque windows date from the 12th century. The baptismal font has a Late Gothic Frisian form and probably comes from Rörbeck.

The Holy Spring is an archaeological monument within the Stollberg nature experience area. It lies beneath shady trees and invites visitors to linger. The spring was part of a pre-Christian Frisian cult site.

Trails and Experiences

The Stollberg nature experience area has play and information stations on landscape formation, cultural history and settlement history. In a reconstructed Iron Age village, visitors can learn about life and ironworking around 400 AD.

On the Bordelum visitor route, the Sterdebüller Geesthardenhaus showcases traditional regional architecture. The route also includes a bog iron ore site as an experience station and a reconstructed bloomery furnace as an interpretation feature.
