Ahrenviölfeld: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Ahrenviölfeld contains a 68-hectare remnant bog with large open areas of water, which has been protected since 1966. The Ahrenviölfeld West Moor lies in the Eider-Treene-Sorge river landscape and in the Arlau lowlands. As an FFH area, it is part of the European Natura 2000 network.
Nature
The wetland habitats in the Ahrenviölfeld West Moor provide suitable conditions for meadow pipits, lapwings and common snipes. The Ahrenviölfeld West Moor nature reserve is freely accessible at all times.
The Ahrenviölfeld West Moor nature trail runs through the nature reserve. Its signs explain changes to the flora and fauna caused by the rewetting of the moor. The Ahrenviölfeld West Moor cycling and walking trail, which runs from north to south, was renovated in 2009 and designated as a moor nature trail. As part of this trail, two information boards and three benches were also installed in 2009.
History
In the meadows and in the West Moor, tree stumps and tree trunks lie about half a metre below the surface. They show that the area was once forested. Peat was extracted in the Ahrenviölfeld West Moor for centuries.
The water-filled hollows around the monument at Ententeich are former marl pits. In the late 1930s, they were leased as carp ponds. During the restoration of Ententeich, a walking path was created around it. A memorial stands in the water of Ententeich. Ententeich is described as an attraction for the village and tourism.
Culture
After it began in 1982, a village evening with a major entertainment programme for young and old was held in Ahrenviölfeld every year. Ahrenviölfeld also has an amateur theatre tradition dating back to the period before the war.
Trails
The municipality has footpaths and cycle paths connecting Ahrenviölfeld with Treia, Oster-Ohrstedt, Bondelum and Ahrenviöl.
Cycling is possible around Ahrenviöl on field tracks and farm roads. The options mentioned there also include the Ochsenweg long-distance cycle route and the North Sea Coast Cycle Route.
Geographical Location
The area around Ahrenviöl lies almost midway between Husum, Schleswig and Flensburg; these cities can be included in day-trip plans. The area also offers short routes to the North Frisian Islands and Halligen, the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea and Eiderstedt.
