Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel combines the designation “moor spa” for Bad Gottleuba with the designation “Kneipp spa resort” for Berggießhübel. The town is described as being located between Saxon Switzerland and the Eastern Ore Mountains.
Culture and history
The local history museum in the Bürgerhaus Bad Gottleuba presents the development of the spa town together with the history of local schools, churches and crafts. The Bährmühle mill, which has existed in the Gottleuba Valley since 1388, is the last of around 30 former water-powered mills preserved in the valley. The mill preserves original milling equipment and an operational sawmill with a saw frame dating from 1898.
The Marie Louise Stolln visitor mine leads around 400 metres underground to a former iron ore deposit and includes an underground lake. A guided tour passes through sections only 65 centimetres wide and 1.60 metres high. The Medical History Collections document more than 100 years of clinical history in an authentic Art Nouveau setting, including the first Saxon workers’ sanatorium, founded in 1913.
Nature and trails
The rock labyrinth near Langenhennersdorf is a sandstone formation with narrow rock crevices, caves and passageways. A numbered circular trail leads through the labyrinth; the formation is protected as an area natural monument.
There are two public viewpoints at the Gottleuba Reservoir, around 700 metres from the Hartmannsbach car park. Above the dam wall, there are hiking trails, a shelter and an information board. The dam wall itself may only be accessed during guided hikes; group hikes can be booked through the tourist information offices of Bad Gottleuba and Berggießhübel.
The Gottleuba Valley Panorama Trail includes sections accessible by bus, viewpoints, rest areas and loungers. It passes the Marie Louise Stolln, the Medical History Collections and the Max Bähr Mill. The signposted trail can be completed as a day or two-day tour and can also be shortened. On the Augustusberg, there is a freely accessible viewpoint reached via several hiking trails; the view can be enjoyed all year round.
Leisure
Billy leisure pool offers a 25-metre pool, diving facilities, a 90-metre slide, a lazy river, children’s water areas, sunbathing lawns and a volleyball court.
Tourist information
The tourist information office sells hiking maps, books, minerals, mining souvenirs, Ore Mountain folk art, drinks and seasonal ice cream. It also provides lockers, toilets, baby-changing facilities, stroller storage and a small play area.
