Naundorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

St. Catherine's Church in Naundorf was completely redesigned in the Baroque style between 1742 and 1744. On this local area page, the search for a holiday apartment to rent is combined with information about the church, the Hof palace and park complex, the Jahnatal Cycle Route, and the Döllnitz Railway.

Culture

The furnishings of St. Catherine's Church include a pneumatic Jehmlich organ dating from 1907. Its enclosing walls form a typical Gothic floor plan with a long nave and a hexagonal eastern end. Inside the church, the pulpit altar is the visual centrepiece.

On the northern side of the church are former manor house chapels that were associated with the estates of Naundorf, Leuben, and Casabra. Some of these former manor house chapels are used as archive rooms and still contain valuable Baroque stoves. In the south-eastern altar area, there is also a stained-glass window from the 1896 renovation depicting the risen Christ. Following Naundorf's 1993 anniversary, St. Catherine's Church was, according to the account, renovated inside and out in accordance with heritage conservation principles. Concerts and lectures take place in the church.

The Hof palace and park complex comprises a Renaissance palace, a Baroque palace, and a park. The complex is located directly on the Jahnatal Cycle Route. The Hof local history association runs a local history room in an ancillary building of the palace complex.

Cycling

The 27-kilometre Jahnatal Cycle Route runs from Baderitz near Zschaitz via Hof to Riesa. The route is described as having no significant inclines and running mostly along specially constructed cycle and pedestrian paths. It is also described as being particularly suitable for families with children.

The Jahnatal Cycle Route is signposted with white-and-green signs bearing the inscription “Jahnatalradweg”. The route follows the Jahna through a floodplain landscape.

Getting There

Naundorf has a stop on the Döllnitz Railway between Oschatz and Mügeln. The Döllnitz Railway runs along a 20-kilometre route from Oschatz via Mügeln to Glossen and Kemmlitz.
