Culture and History
The Gebr. Pfau Historical Cloth Factory is a technical monument of European significance and is used as a museum. During guided tours, visitors can follow the production of woollen cloth step by step; the working and living conditions of former textile workers are also presented. The former factory complex has been protected as a historic monument since 1990 as a testament to industrial architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Gebr. Pfau Cloth Factory preserves historic equipment for spinning, weaving, washing, dyeing, and drying, with largely original machinery.
Nature
Sahnpark is Crimmitschau’s largest and oldest park. Its 6.5-kilometer network of paths is designed for walking, jogging, and fitness walking. A nature trail provides information about the local animal and plant life.
Sahnpark is also home to Sahnbad, a regional forest open-air swimming pool with a 50-by-100-meter water area and a children’s pool. The animal enclosure includes an adventure playground, a nature trail, and a Green Classroom for schoolchildren and kindergarten children.
Frankenhausen
The ruins of the Frankenhausen Cistercian nunnery date from 1292; the associated ensemble is protected as a historic monument. The center of Frankenhausen includes the 2.8-hectare Hofteich pond. The Pleiße floodplain is a defining landscape feature of Frankenhausen.
In Frankenhausen, a district of Crimmitschau, the Luther Trail and the Way of St. James meet.
