Parthenstein is a rural excursion area with forests, lakes, quarries, natural landscapes and historic settlements along the Parthe River. Nature and Landscape

Culture and History

The surrounding area of Parthenstein is home to Nimbschen Abbey and the Sorbian Cave. Also located there are the parish church in Beiersdorf (Grimma), the village church in Ammelshain and St. Petri Parish Church in Albrechtshain.

A fortified church dating from the 13th century is located in Pomßen, a district of Parthenstein. It contains one of Saxony's oldest organs, built by Gottfried Richter in 1671 and reconstructed in 2006. The Association for the Organ in Pomßen regularly organizes concerts, courses, organ demonstrations and symposia; as a result, the historic organ is also a focal point for cultural experiences beyond simply viewing the architecture.

Cycling

The signposted Parthe-Mulde Cycle Route passes through Parthenstein on its route between Leipzig and Grimma. It mainly follows paved or asphalted cycle paths as well as quiet country and forest roads. Its gentle gradients are described as family-friendly.
