Lobstädt combines historical landmarks, distinctive landscapes and a stage of the Luther Trail to create a diverse travel destination. Anyone wishing to combine culture, nature and a manageable hike during their stay will find various starting points here for planning their own day. Depending on their interests, families can also choose between discovering church history, experiencing the landscape and taking a seasonal coffee break.

Church and Listed Buildings

Lobstädt Church was first mentioned as early as 1490. It was built on the remains of a Late Romanesque or Early Gothic foundation, preserving a long architectural history. The chancel contains carved figures of John the Baptist and Moses. Regular church services continue to take place there on a monthly basis. When arriving by car, the route follows the B2, B95 and K7930 to Neukieritzsch and then continues to Victoriastraße in Lobstädt.

Another historical detail is the cemetery chapel in the Lobstädt cemetery on Alt-Witznitzer-Straße. It was built in 1925 and is a listed monument. The simple rendered building has a roof turret, a rubble-stone base, a rendered façade, an arched portal and an old window. Its significance in local and architectural history makes it an interesting destination for anyone who also wishes to take note of smaller buildings and local history while travelling.

Landscape between Water, Mining History and Bird Conservation

The area around Lobstädt includes the Lobstädt water reservoir, which regulates the groundwater level in the surrounding area. The European bird sanctuary “Lobstädter Lachen” offers a special connection with nature. It covers areas within the municipalities of Deutzen and Lobstädt as well as the town of Borna in the Leipziger Land district. The area fills the curve to the left of the relocated Pleiße between the localities of Deutzen and Lobstädt.

The habitats and breeding sites of the bird species mentioned there include the former settling basin of the lignite mine, with two mesotrophic residual bodies of water, changing shallow-water areas and mudflats. There are also extensive reed beds and ruderal vegetation. It is precisely this combination of a mining-shaped past, water areas and vegetation zones that gives the landscape its distinctive character. The park belonging to Lobstädt Castle, on the other hand, has not survived because of the Deutzen open-cast mine and the relocation of the Pleiße.

An Easy Luther Trail Stage for Day Planning

The Saxony Luther Trail passes the village of Lobstädt on the 7.73 km-long, easy pilgrimage stage from Borna to Neukieritzsch. The route follows cycle paths and paved roads as well as Lobstädter Straße. Anyone wishing to include a clearly defined section of trail in their stay can plan this stage as a focus in its own right. Its specific length and designated easy rating help distinguish the hike from other travel activities, such as a cultural or landscape day.

Café Lobelei and Seasonal Travel Ideas

For a trip during the warmer months, Café Lobelei is also one of the possible stops. It opens once a month. From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., it serves coffee specialities and seasonal cakes. This makes it possible to include local dining in the planning without focusing the stay exclusively on a single attraction.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Lobstädt, you can first decide on your preferred focus: historic buildings, the landscape of Lobstädter Lachen, the Luther Trail stage or a seasonal break at the café. Then decide whether culture, nature or activity should be the centre of your travel plans.

For further orientation, you can also explore Markranstädt, Neukieritzsch, Bad Lausick, Trebsen/Mulde, Geithain, Kitzscher, Zwenkau and Colditz.
