Klotzsche combines a historic circular trail, local historical landmarks and a varied indoor experience at Dresden Airport. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment in Klotzsche can already take their preferred travel rhythm into account when choosing a location: Should a walk featuring history be the main focus, are you more interested in architectural and technical history, or are you planning time together with children? The sights offer different ways to explore this Dresden district.

Forest Park and a Walk with Historic Stations

A special starting point for an exploratory tour is the “The Historic Klotzsche Forest Park” experience trail. The circular route in Dresden-Klotzsche brings the former spa park in the Dresden Heath back to life. At around 3 km long, the route remains manageable while also offering several thematic stations for a thoughtful exploration.

Along the experience trail there are 10 information boards. In addition, there are old foundations, the base of the King Albert monument, a tennis court and a spa meadow. As a result, the route not only follows a historical narrative but also reveals various traces of the former spa park. If you enjoy stopping at individual points along the way, reading and discovering details, the circular route can easily be planned as a separate item on your itinerary.

To reach the experience trail, you can take tram line 7 or bus lines 70, 78, 80 and 308 to the “Zur neuen Brücke” stop. This specific connection is particularly relevant if you do not want to plan your day exclusively around the car. When looking for accommodation, you can therefore check which stay suits your planned activities and preferred means of arrival.

Local History, Water Supply and Sacred Architecture

Klotzsche also tells the story of its development away from the experience trail. The water tower was built as a replacement in 1935 after the elevated tanks that had previously supplied the locality with water were demolished from 1934 onward as part of the airport construction. As a testimony to the water supply system, the water tower is significant in terms of local and technical history.

At Klotzsche railway station, the Quosdorf memorial stone also commemorates Friedrich August Quosdorf, the founder of Königswald. The Klotzsche Beautification Association erected it in 1856. Anyone interested in local personalities and the history of individual places will find another specific connection to Klotzsche’s past here.

The Old Klotzsche Church belongs to the tradition of Saxon-style Baroque Protestant church architecture. Its furnishings are defined by the pulpit altar and organ. From May to September, the church is open on Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. If you would like to include this visit in your travel plans, you should coordinate your stay with this time window.

Playful Time at Dresden Airport

For families, Playport Dresden offers a distinctly different experience. The indoor playground at Dresden Airport includes a large climbing structure with a maze and slides, trampoline areas, a football pitch, a spider tower, climbing trees and a separate area for toddlers. There is also the new sled roller slide. This allows you to distinguish between a historic outdoor walk and an extensive indoor experience when planning your itinerary, without treating the two activities as equivalent in content.

Klotzsche is therefore suitable for travel plans that combine different interests: a circular route of around 3 km with information boards, evidence of local and technical history, a Baroque church building and an indoor playground with activities for different age groups. Choose your holiday apartment or holiday house according to which of these experiences you want to be the focus of your stay.
