Culture and History
The ensemble of Hirschstein Castle includes the castle building, an ancillary building, a former guardhouse extension and an orangery. Guided tours of Hirschstein Castle are available on request. In 1944, the castle was used as a state prison for Belgian King Leopold and his family.
The Easter fountain tradition in Hirschstein began in 2004. In almost every district, traditional wrapping techniques and dyed eggs are used.
The church in Boritz contains a Late Gothic altar assembled from painted wood carvings dating from 1520. The Loose Museum Farm in Boritz shows the way of life of a farming family at the end of the 19th century. Agricultural equipment that is still functional is also exhibited there. The Loose Museum Farm is open by appointment only.
The Dutch windmill in Pahrenz was built as a stone structure in 1889 and remains a functional technical monument. The mill can be visited at any time. Heyda Church is a protected monument and is described as Heyda's oldest building; it features interior furnishings and wall paintings.
Exploring on Foot
A local hiking route starting at Kastanienallee in Neuhirschstein takes about one hour and covers approximately 3.5 kilometers through the park. It passes an old beech tree, a ring wall, the Crusius family grave, the Elbe and Neuhirschstein Castle.
The route uses forest paths and uneven terrain. Bus route 406 connects Riesa, Hirschstein and Meißen. Parking is available at the entrance to Neuhirschstein.
Exploring by Bike
Information boards along the Hirschstein Mill Cycle Route explain the history of former mill sites. The cycle route is suitable for touring bikes, e-bikes and gravel bikes.
