Niederelbert: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Wäller Tour Elberthöhen trail leads from Niederelbert via Welschneudorf and Oberelbert; in good weather, the views may extend as far as the Feldberg. Niederelbert lies in the middle and upper Stelzenbach Valley, southeast of the Montabaurer Höhe and on the road between Montabaur and Bad Ems. The Wäller Tour can also be reached from Montabaur ICE train station via bus route 456 to Niederelbert Rathaus.

Nature and Trails

Several described trails lead through the landscape around the village. The N1 hiking route is 4.3 kilometers long and reaches the adjacent forest after passing a water reservoir. Before entering the forest, it offers a view over Niederelbert. In late spring, native orchids may be visible alongside the N1; the route also includes an orchid meadow that is home to several orchid species.

The N2 hiking route is 4 kilometers long, with around two-thirds running through the built-up area and one-third through the municipal forest. A small footbridge leads to the Wertwiese, which is described as a former hunting lodge. The N3 climbs up to the Hähnchen and offers a view of Niederelbert. The remains of the foundations of a former radar station from the Second World War are also located along this route.

The approximately eight-kilometer circular Gickelsweg trail leads around Niederelbert, crossing fields, meadows, forest and small streams, and includes the Steinkaut viewpoint at a former quarry. The Biotope Nature Trail begins on Südstraße. It is approximately 3.4 kilometers long and has 20 information boards about the local flora and fauna; it can also be walked with a stroller in any weather.

Culture and Local History

The Catholic parish church of St. Joseph was built in 1910 in the neo-Romanesque style. During its restoration, the Romanesque round arches beneath the organ loft were restored. The historic baptismal font was returned to its former place in St. Joseph, and a colored glass window was reinstalled in its original opening.

The traditional rooster, a symbol of Niederelbert, appears as a heraldic figure in the local coat of arms. The patronal feast of St. Joseph is celebrated annually on March 19; the church consecration festival takes place on the second Sunday in September.
