Culture

The Catholic parish church of Maria Heimsuchung is a photographic landmark in Höhn. It was first mentioned in 1100; its chapel and choir date from 1462. In the wider region around Höhn are the Hartenfels castle ruins and the castles of Greifenstein, Runkel and Freienfels.

Winter Sports

Höhn-Schönberg has a 700-metre ski slope with two lifts for skiing and snowboarding. The facilities also include floodlit skiing, a toboggan rental service and a ski school.

Höhn is home to the Hochstein natural monument, a basalt boulder field at an elevation of around 525 metres. It is a waypoint on a hiking trail and the highest elevation in the Westerburger Land.

History

Höhn's mining heritage is reflected in an old headframe on the market square. It commemorates the nearly 300-year history of the Alexandria Mine, which began operations in 1651 and closed in 1961.
