Hörschhausen still displays its characteristic clustered village structure; the village was first mentioned in written sources in the 15th century. The Volcanic Eifel has more than 77 scientifically documented maars, including 12 filled with water. The Windsborn Crater Lake near Bettenfeld is described as the only natural crater lake north of the Alps. The UNESCO Global Geopark Vulkaneifel highlights the region’s geological significance internationally.

The Volcanic Eifel offers hiking trails ranging from relaxed circular routes to varied point-to-point trails. Vulkaneifel trails pass through landscapes with maars, forests, stream valleys and expansive viewpoints; many are certified as quality trails and start at easily accessible locations. Regional Products
At Ulmenhof, cow’s and goat’s milk are processed into cheese every day, without preservatives or other additives. The BioHofLaden Ulmenhof in Sarmersbach offers farm products as well as a visitor area with a fire pit and a sun terrace.
