The Jünkerath Reservoir lies in the green landscape of the Schneifel. More than half of the reservoir has been left in its natural state, providing protected habitats for animals and plants. The Jünkerath Reservoir and the surrounding Kyll waters are used for fishing. The fishing waters are managed by ASV Jünkerath, which maintains the fishing spots.

Trails

A section of the Way of St. James runs through Jünkerath. Numerous well-signposted regional hiking trails make it possible to explore the Eifel landscape on foot. The Kyll Cycle Path is also one of the routes around Jünkerath. It runs for 123 kilometers from the source of the Kyll to its mouth in the Moselle near Trier.

The Vulkaneifel Trail can be started at Jünkerath railway station if arriving by train.

History

The Glaadt Castle ruins stand in Jünkerath's Glaadt district. They are the ruins of a 14th-century castle built by Count Dieterich von Schleiden. History enthusiasts and hikers can visit them as a short detour. The Jünkerath ironworks was founded in 1687 and shaped the region's economic development.

Railway

Jünkerath is described as being accessible by train and by car. Jünkerath railway station was opened in 1871 on the Eifel Railway, which connects Cologne and Trier. Opposite the old station stands a 72-ton iron ladle railway wagon, visible to rail travelers.

Museum

The Jünkerath Railway Museum displays exhibits from 150 years of Eifel railway history. The collection includes railway uniforms, lamps, telephones, stamps, signs, ticket punches, signal box levers, tools, and other equipment. Around 700 iron ladle wagons were manufactured in Jünkerath and exported to 43 countries.

The Jünkerath Railway Museum is located at Mühlengasse 3a in Jünkerath-Glaadt, on the first floor of a former mill.
