The Ormont Moor Trail is a moderately difficult, 9.8 km circular hike that starts and ends at St. Margareta Church in Ormont. Via wide forest paths, it leads to the source of the Prüm and the Bragphenn wetland area south of Ormont; along the way, the route climbs to around 655 m. The approximately 7,000-year-old raised bog is home to rare plants, areas of peat moss, heathland and a stand of Carpathian birches. Sensitive wetland areas can be crossed via a boardwalk.

History

Ormont’s Neuenstein area is associated with the remains of Neuenstein Castle. The castle was built above the Prüm around 1365 and destroyed in 1794; only sparse foundation remains have survived.
