Berenbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Berenbach is described as a village in the holiday region around the Hochkelberg, on the edge of the Upper Elz Valley and within the Vulkaneifel with its volcanic maar landscape. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Berenbach can then continue searching for accommodation.

Nature

The Kastelberg stands on the boundary between Horperath and Berenbach and rises around 100 metres above both villages. It is described as a Tertiary volcanic hill formed from basaltic lava. Erosion created a block scree and a block scree forest on its slopes. The Kastelberg is a nearby destination for a short walk from Horperath and Berenbach.

The hiking and cycling trails along the near-natural Uessbach landscape are presented as routes for exploring Berenbach. Thus, both the paths along the watercourse and the volcanically shaped Kastelberg are among the described landscape features of the village.

Culture

The church buildings from 1774 and 1933 in Berenbach are under the patronage of Saint Brigitta. The Catholic church at Bergfrieden 16 is a basalt hall church built in 1933/40. The St. Brigida Chapel was built in 1940 and replaced an earlier structure.

Two Stations of the Cross are preserved at the eastern exit of Berenbach. The villagescape also includes the settlement form known as a clustered village, meaning a village laid out in a concentrated manner.

History

South of Berenbach lies the Furthermühle mill on the Ueßbach. It is described as apparently historic, but is extensively fenced off. The remains of a ring-shaped stone enclosure are preserved on the Kastelberg.

The Kastelberg is described as having been fortified before Roman times; Celtic and later Roman use is possible. Berenbach is also described as a place with its own stop on the Eifelquerbahn railway since the 1970s.
