Niederburg: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Niederburg is situated on the last terrace of the Hunsrück hills above the Rhine and offers views of Oberwesel’s Schönburg Castle, Gutenfels Castle and the Palatinate near Kaub. Hiking trails lead from Niederburg towards the Lorelei cliffs. The 412-metre-high Spitzestein is topped by an 18.50-metre-high wooden tower offering panoramic views. History and Culture

Niederburg was first mentioned in official records in 1286 under the name Nyderinberc. A church already existed in the village in 1309 and was elevated to a parish church in 1386. The Romanesque church tower in Niederburg contains bells cast by Tyllmann von Hachenburg in 1427 and 1477. Parts of the former Niederburg’s curtain wall and moat have been preserved.

Nature and Trails

A hiking car park for the Traumschleife Mittelrhein is available in Niederburg. At the Klüppelberg viewpoint above the Rhine Valley, there is a barbecue hut available for local residents to use. The Rheinsteig and Moselsteig trails are located in the immediate vicinity of the wider Hunsrück-Mittelrhein region.

The Rhine and the Surrounding Region

River cruises showcase the narrow Rhine Valley, its vineyards and numerous castles. In the wider Hunsrück-Mittelrhein area, local restaurants offer visitors the opportunity to taste wine produced in the region. Numerous ferries can be used for a round trip on the Rhine Cycle Route without crossing a Middle Rhine bridge. A round trip on the Rhine Cycle Route is also possible in the wider tourism area.
