Culture and Local History
The Protestant parish church is a Baroque hall church dated 1747. The Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity is a neo-Gothic hall church built in 1898/99 and associated with the Cologne architect E. Endler.
The bakehouse is a rendered building partially clad in slate, with a hall on the ground floor dating from 1882. The original oven has been preserved in the bakehouse and is still used.
The “Krone” Heritage House is located in a former inn dating from the mid-18th century. The museum presents collections on rural life across approximately 240 square metres and three floors. These include a historic living room, a traditional kitchen, a parents’ bedroom, and a document room. The museum also contains a working loom as well as tools for spinning flax and weaving linen. The attic displays historic tools and equipment from agriculture, crafts, and housework.
The Heritage House stands in Kappel’s former “Dreispitz”, near the two churches and the old bakehouse. Visits to the Heritage House are possible by prior appointment.
The upper floor of the bakehouse contains an event room for up to 35 people with step-free access. The barbecue hut can accommodate up to 50 people and is located approximately 2 kilometres north of the village in a wooded setting away from the Hunsrückhöhenstraße.
Geographical Setting
Kappel has a historically significant location at the junction of the B 327 Hunsrückhöhenstraße and the B 421. The municipality’s history identifies an earlier crossing of Roman roads at almost the same location.
Cycling
Kappel is connected to the Hunsrück-Moselle Cycle Route, which continues as far as Treis-Karden.
Hiking
The Keltenweg Nahe–Mosel trail runs through the area surrounding Kappel, northeast of the village, and continues towards Reidenhausen.
