Discover Richert: History and Trails
Accommodation in Richert
Richert is a district of the municipality of Puderbach. A large part of the municipality lies within the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park. For planning your trip, you can choose from a range of themes: the history of Reichenstein Castle ruins, hiking trails in the municipality and cycling circuits in the Puderbacher Land. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to first consider whether you want to focus mainly on historical sites, observing nature or longer tours. The destinations below differ not only in theme, but also in route length and starting point.
Reichenstein Castle Ruins: History and Trail Connections
Reichenstein Castle ruins are located in one of Puderbach’s districts. They were probably built around 1310 by Ludwig III of Reichenstein, who established his ancestral seat there. Castle Trail 1 passes directly by the ruins. In 2018, Castle Trail 1 led from Richert along a meadow path that gently descends to Reichenstein Castle ruins. As this route description dates from 2018, check the current route before setting out. You can arrange guided castle tours and visits by telephone with the Puderbacher Land Tourist Information Office at 02684 / 858-160. Check availability before travelling.
Hiking Trails with Different Themes
The castle trails in the municipality are circular routes through the countryside; in principle, you can join the route at any point. Castle Trail 2 runs through the Werlenbach Valley to the Dürrholz Nature Experience Trail and is about 17.6 km long. On Castle Trail 3, you can observe Heck cattle in a landscape away from traffic. The nature experience trail offers insights into the forest, its animals and plants, as well as hunting and forestry. The options therefore range from wildlife observation to topics related to forests and their management. When travelling with children, the different themes can help you choose an outing together: history, wildlife observation or learning about forests and forestry each offer a different focus.
Cycling Circuits and Countryside
The 16 km “Around Puderbach” cycle and hiking trail starts and ends at the community centre on Barentoner Straße in Puderbach. As a longer alternative, the approximately 45 km circular route of the “Puderbacher Land” cycle route leads through the Westerwald, over the uplands of the Lower Westerwald and through the region’s stream valleys. Parts of the route are on asphalt, while much of it follows unpaved and gravel field and forest tracks. On this circular tour, you can also choose any point as your start and finish. The two options therefore differ in length and starting arrangements: “Around Puderbach” has a specified start and end point, while on the “Puderbacher Land” route you can choose your own start and finish anywhere on the circuit. When choosing a holiday apartment, these differences can help you match your preferred cycling tour with your other plans for outings.
Match Your Holiday Apartment to Your Outings
When looking for a holiday apartment in Richert, you can weigh up the different types of outings. For the castle ruins, the trail connection goes hand in hand with arranging a visit by telephone; for cycling days, route length, starting point and surface are practical planning considerations.
