Hiking
A circular hiking trail runs directly through Oberhonnefeld. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Oberhonnefeld-Gierend can then continue searching for accommodation. The Butter Trail is a 12-kilometre-long historic route from Hümmerich through the Fockenbach Valley and through Straßenhaus and Bonefeld to Rengsdorf. The hiking area offers a view to the north of the Grube Georg mine headframe, an industrial monument in Willroth. Near Rengsdorf, Oberhonnefeld-Gierend has direct connections to the Rheinsteig and Westerwaldsteig trails. The WesterwaldPark car park in Oberhonnefeld-Gierend is connected to the Erzweg 1 trail.
Nature
A footpath leads around the pond in the Hölzbach wetland biotope. The wetland biotope is home to lush vegetation and many animals that can be observed. Benches by the wetland biotope pond offer visitors places to linger. Zebu cattle, Galloway cattle and alpacas graze in the surrounding meadows. Several restaurants and inns in Oberhonnefeld-Gierend welcome guests.
Culture
The tower of the Honnefeld parish church is a visible landmark in Oberhonnefeld. The “Backes” bakehouse in Oberhonnefeld-Gierend was inaugurated in 2011.
Geographical Location
Oberhonnefeld-Gierend is a municipality in the district of Neuwied in northern Rhineland-Palatinate and is located in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park, north of Rengsdorf. The B256 runs east of Oberhonnefeld-Gierend along the route between Neuwied and Altenkirchen. Part of Oberhonnefeld-Gierend is located directly at a motorway exit of the A3.
