Hiking trails starting and ending in Brodenbach
The Traumpfad Bergschluchtenpfad Ehrenburg trail starts in Brodenbach and first takes hikers into the Brodenbach Valley. The Donnerloch circular route also starts in the village and runs directly through the valley. If you want to choose a hike that starts in Brodenbach, these two routes may be worth considering when planning. The Ehrbach Gorge offers a different option: this route ends in Brodenbach on the Moselle promenade.
Excursions by bus, boat and train
From 1 April to 31 October, the RegioRadler bus on route 630 runs daily from Emmelshausen to Treis-Karden, also serving Brodenbach and Burgen. Combined with boat and train travel, the route makes numerous day trips possible for cyclists and hikers. Local history and nearby discoveries
The “Alte Kirche” community hall is the restored former Catholic parish church of St. John of Nepomuk. Built in 1732, it was converted into an event space for the Brodenbach community in 1994 after being deconsecrated. The building thus combines its former religious use with its later role as a community space.
Nearby is Ehrenburg, the ruins of a spur castle above Brodenbach. It has a varied history, stands on a rocky spur and overlooks the Ehrbach Valley, a side valley of the Moselle. For those interested in cultural history, it is a destination with a distinct connection to the landscape of the valley.
The annual fair and space for children to play
The Brodenbach fair is held annually in mid-May in memory of the patron saint of the old church, St. John of Nepomuk. It is considered the community’s oldest village festival, probably. It opens with a musical brunch featuring food and music. There are festivities for children, and in the afternoon a coffee and cake buffet is offered, with homemade cakes. If you plan your trip around the fair, you will get a specific insight into a local tradition.
The “Naturnaher Spielplatz Salzwiese” (Salzwiese Nature Playground) is described as a natural play and discovery space for children of all ages, fully integrated into the landscape. Its features include a stream, a climbing hill and a meadow for running around and playing ball games. Sand, water, stones, wood and earth serve as natural play materials. The playground therefore offers various ways to play with these materials and move around in the meadow.
Views and wine
Hubertushöhe is a viewpoint with a pavilion on County Road 72, the road connecting Brodenbach and Buchholz. From there, the view extends over the rooftops of Brodenbach to Löf on the opposite side of the Moselle. There is a small parking area at Hubertushöhe with space for about two cars.
Wine tastings are another option in the area: Weingut Reinhold Bernardy offers them in its winegrower’s tavern for groups of up to 30 people. You can add a wine tasting to your holiday plans alongside hikes and excursions.
