Culture and History

Sankt Julian was first documented in 1290 as “apud Sanctam Julianam”. A chapel founded to house the relics of Saint Julia quickly made Sankt Julian a pilgrimage site. Today, the oil extraction process at the historic oil mill is used only for demonstration purposes. The peeling or tanning mechanism with shaking device and wind house is described as unique in Germany.

Sankt Julian is located directly on the Glan-Blies Cycle Route and directly on the draisine railway route. From Lauterecken, the town can be reached by train and then via approximately 8.4 kilometres on the Glan-Blies Cycle Route.
