Discover Lambsborn: Trails, Church and Local History Museum
Accommodation in Lambsborn
At the foot of the Sickinger Höhe lies Lambsborn. The village combines opportunities for physical activity with insights into its history and everyday life in the past. A certified Nordic walking course with three routes and the Sagenhafte Waldpfad (Legendary Forest Trail) offer a different focus from the Protestant Church and the local history museum. When choosing a place to stay, you can consider whether you would like your trip to focus more on physical activity, cultural history or local traditions.
Trails and activities
Lambsborn has a certified Nordic walking course with three routes. If you would like to include this form of exercise in your stay, it provides a specific focus for planning your trip. The Sagenhafte Waldpfad (Legendary Forest Trail) offers another starting point: its trailhead and car park are at Lambsborn Cemetery on Hauptstraße. These details describe two different starting points for activities, rather than a shared route.
An IVV walking event is also part of what Lambsborn offers; it takes place on the fourth weekend in August. When planning, you can distinguish this event from the individual trails and activities available in the village. If you would like to plan a stay around physical activity, the course, the forest trail starting point and the walking event can therefore each provide a different reason to visit, which you can consider separately.
Church history and village life
Lambsborn Protestant Church stands on a hillside away from the village street. Its history goes back to the 12th century, when it was founded by Hornbach Abbey. During the Reformation, the church, which had previously been Catholic, became Protestant in 1537 and retained its name. It is dedicated to the Apostles Philip and James. Inside, a Baroque pulpit dating from 1783 has been preserved; it is the only surviving element from this period of construction. The church’s founding, change of denomination and pulpit each provide their own historical point of interest.
The local history museum “Wie’s frieher wor” (“How It Used to Be”) offers a different perspective on life in the village in the past. It displays old agricultural equipment and household items. A former farmhouse living room also illustrates rural life in earlier times. Together, these exhibits offer an insight into work and everyday life that differs from the church’s historical focus. If you would like a trip that does not make every outing about physical activity, the museum offers its own cultural point of interest.
Local experiences and events
At the Gortner family’s potato farm, visitors can learn about potatoes and the history of schnapps distilling through hands-on experiences. Barbecue and cooking courses featuring game are also available by individual arrangement. Alongside the trails and historic sites, agricultural and culinary themes are therefore also in the spotlight. Lambsborn’s church fair takes place on the third Sunday in September, while the farm festival is held every two years in August. The Christmas market is scheduled for the first Saturday of Advent. These events take place at different times of year, each having its own place in the local calendar.
Choosing where to stay
Bus services run from Lambsborn to Homburg/Saar, Bruchmühlbach-Miesau, Landstuhl, Zweibrücken and Martinshöhe. You can take these destinations into account when choosing where to stay, along with the activities and cultural attractions in Lambsborn itself. When choosing a holiday apartment, a useful point of comparison is what you want from your stay: would you like to focus on physical activity, learn about church history, or explore rural life and local traditions?
