The Eulenkopf defines Eulenbis: the mountain lies 422 metres above sea level and is the highest elevation in the Weilerbach municipal association. The Eulenkopf Tower stands on it, above the village. Around Eulenbis, scenic views, marked hiking trails and special insights into local culture come together. If you are considering a holiday apartment in Eulenbis, you can base your choice on whether you would like your stay to focus more on hikes on the Eulenkopf or on exploring the village.

The Eulenkopf and trails through the countryside

One specific route is the 14.5-kilometre circular trail “Attempts at Ore Mining on the Eulenkopf.” It passes through the municipalities of Eulenbis and Erzenhausen and the Eulenkopf Landscape Protection Area. Along the way, shady forest paths alternate with elevated trails offering scenic views. The circular trail provides an impressive view at the old Roman road near Eulenbis. The route’s length and changing trail sections give you practical points of reference for planning your day, without requiring you to treat this route as equivalent to other trails.

The Teufelstour also passes through Eulenbis. It has been awarded the German Hiking Seal as a premium trail. Those interested in geology will find another option in the GeoTour Eulenkopf, which begins right at the Eulenkopf near Eulenbis. The trails cover different themes—from a tour about ore mining to an award-winning premium trail and a geo-tour. When choosing where to stay, you can consider which of these themes is especially appealing for your trip.

The “Blue Cross” hiking trail of the Palatinate Forest Association runs from Kaiserslautern to Wolfstein. Trail maps showing its route are posted at prominent points in Eulenbis and Erzenhausen. The Eulenkopf Association also maintains six signposted hiking trails; trail maps for these are likewise posted at prominent points in both municipalities. If you are considering different hikes, the maps can help you familiarise yourself with each route.

The tower, museum and crafts

The Eulenkopf Tower combines its prominent location on the Eulenkopf with an unusual cultural detail: it houses the highest wedding room in the Palatinate. The tower can be visited by prior arrangement. If you plan to visit, make sure to arrange this in advance. For directions, there is a car park at the Eulenkopf Tower at Eulenkopfstraße 2, 67685 Eulenbis.

Another distinctive feature of the village is the Beerewei(n) Museum Eulenbis. It is dedicated specifically to the production of Beerewei(n), which can also be sampled there. Eulenbis is also home to the woodcarving workshop and carving school at Im Steineck 36. These places complement the hiking trails with themes of production, tasting and craftsmanship. So when choosing your holiday apartment, you may also want to consider whether you would prefer to combine your stay mainly with hikes on the Eulenkopf or with these insights into local culture.

A festival on the Eulenkopf

A two-day mountain festival is held at Pentecost on the adjacent grounds of the Eulenkopf Association. The festival is another reason to connect Eulenbis with community life on the Eulenkopf. For planning your trip, Pentecost is the specific date to bear in mind; the festival is therefore distinct from the year-round activities described here, such as hiking, visiting the museum and exploring local crafts.
