The Bännjer summit cross stands on the Großer Hausberg at an elevation of 466 metres; the Großer Hausberg is described as the highest elevation of the Sickinger Höhe.

Geographical Location

Bann lies on the western edge of the Palatinate Forest, where the landscape transitions into the Sickinger Höhe, in the Steinalb Valley area southwest of Kaiserslautern. The northern part of the municipality belongs to the natural region known as the Sickinger Stufe. The Walkmühltal valley lies in the eastern part of the municipality, while the Kolbental valley borders it to the east.

Culture and History

The Sickinger Forsthaus was built in 1761, preserves a well-maintained Rococo portal, and is a listed monument. St. Valentine’s Church in Bann is a neo-Gothic church completed in 1883.

Terraced waterways run at the Jakobsbrunnen spring; six original wash stones date from its former use as a washing fountain. A Celtic menhir beside the road to Bann’s sports ground is around 120 centimetres high and bears a cross carved into its upper third at a later date. The menhir was uncovered again in 2000 and provided with an information board and a bench.

St. Barbara’s Chapel in Bann was consecrated on 14 October 1900. The Barbara Chapel had a Way of the Cross with seven stations, which extended in the direction of Queidersbach and was connected with the renovation and decoration of the chapel in 1730. The ruins of Perlenburg Castle in Bann preserve the stump of a square keep with carefully hewn bossage stones. The traditional Bännjer Kerb is a local church fair.

Nature

The Steinalb Spring lies on the Ziegelsteige ascent to the Kahlenberg; its spring area was redesigned in 2000 with a sandstone marker and a bench beneath shade-providing trees. The Sickinger Mill Wheel Cycle Path passes Bann’s sports ground and climbs steeply from Bann to the Sickinger Höhe.

Connections

Bann has bus connections to Kaiserslautern and to the S-Bahn station in Landstuhl. Bann’s motorway access provides connections to the A62 towards Pirmasens and to the A6 between Saarbrücken and Mannheim.
