Kandel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Kandel is framed to the west by the foothills of the vineyards of southern Palatinate and to the north and east by the Bienwald forest. The largely flat floodplain forest around Kandel can be explored on extended walks. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Kandel can then continue their accommodation search.
Nature
Loop Trail 2 is a 5-kilometre circular route that begins at the Naturfreundehaus Kandel in the Bienwald forest. It runs along level paths through the Bienwald, where walkers can experience diverse flora and fauna, has no inclines, and is described as suitable for inexperienced walkers. It also passes through the adventure park, where climbers can be watched from April onwards.
Cycling
Kandel is the starting point for several cycling tours and has a network of signposted cycling and cycle touring routes.
Culture
St. George's Church was used as a simultaneous church from 1684 to 1958. Kandel's historic town hall is a Baroque building constructed between 1773 and 1783. Kandel also has a 1.9-kilometre historical town walk.
Sandstone and wooden sculptures stand along the paths in the European Cultural Park at Schwanenweiher. The half-timbered house in Turmgasse formerly housed an evangelical deacon's and teacher's residence and was probably built in the first half of the 18th century. On 16 February 1722, the government of Palatinate-Zweibrücken granted Philipp Nikolaus Leuchsenring the privilege of operating a pharmacy in Kandel.
The Bienwaldregion Kandel Tourist Information Office provides leisure tips, cycling and hiking maps, and event calendars. Further information about the town is available on the Freckenfeld page.
