Hördt: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

The listed Catholic parish church of St. George has a nave core dating from 1750. Hördt also preserves a section of the monastery wall and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. From the early 12th century until the mid-16th century, Hördt Monastery was the wealthiest knightly monastery in the former Electoral Palatinate and a religious center for the surrounding area.

Guided tours of the exhibition in the Old Forester’s House are generally offered free of charge by Hördt volunteers.

Nature

Hördt serves as a starting point for hikes through the Hördt Rhine floodplains. The Hördt–Eichtal Trail is classified as easy and takes approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes. It passes through woodland and meadow landscapes and includes a 2 km forest and bird nature trail offering insights into the local birdlife. Parking areas are designated on site for the Eichtal Trail.

The Treidler Trail is an easy premium circular route covering 12.6 km. It passes fields of yellow irises as well as grass and reed areas. Fish ponds and water-filled pits along the route contain pond lilies and water lilies. The Treidler Trail follows the Michelsbach through an internationally protected and ecologically intact floodplain landscape.

Trails

The Treidler Trail begins at the hiking car park in Hördt near an information board. It is impassable during floods. The trail can be reached by train to Rülzheim railway station, followed by bus route 589, or on foot via the Palatinate Way of St. James to Hördt.

The signposted Palatinate Way of St. James passes through Rülzheim and Hördt; its trail marker is a white shell on a blue background. The Treidler Trail also follows the historical traces of towing, in which people or draft animals pulled ships upstream along the Rhine.

The Klingbach Cycle Route also reaches Hördt and continues into the Hördt Rhine floodplains.

Culinary delights
