Freisbach’s present-day Protestant parish church was built in the Rococo style in 1754. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Freisbach can then continue searching for accommodation.

Culture and history

The church preserves the west portal of an earlier Gothic church. Its interior paintings were created by the Landau painter Georg Menges in the same year the building was constructed, 1754. The ceiling paintings show the Holy Trinity in the centre and the four Evangelists in the corners. The furnishings include an organ with 25 stops, installed in 1789 by organ builder Johann Geib, which is still in working order. The walled forecourt was formerly a cemetery and, together with the church and the old schoolhouse, forms an architectural ensemble.

Freisbach’s earliest roots are believed to date back to around the sixth century. The place was first documented in 1179 as “Frispach” in the Codex of Abbot Edelin of Weissenburg. Hintergasse 11 was probably built in 1557 as a Electoral Palatinate forester’s and huntsman’s house. The associated stable of the former forester’s and huntsman’s house dates from the 17th century; the year 1683 is carved into its gate beam.
