With the medieval “Prayer Book from St. Thomas”, dated to around 1300, Sankt Thomas preserves the oldest known form of the Rosary of the Life of Jesus.

A relic of Thomas Becket is set into the church behind a cross medallion in the altar.

The former Cistercian convent in Sankt Thomas was founded around 1185.

A fire destroyed the former abbey in 1742; only the church remained standing.

Getting There

The starting point of the Westschleifenweg trail is about 70 metres from Sankt Thomas railway station and can be reached by public transport.

The Kyll Valley Cycle Path runs directly through Sankt Thomas along a predominantly flat route.

Sankt Thomas railway station provides access to the Eifel Railway between Trier and Cologne; trains run hourly in both directions.

Sankt Thomas can also be reached via the VRT bus network in the western Eifel.

Road access is via Landesstraße 24 through the Kyll Valley; the A60 can be reached via the Badem interchange.

Nature

The signposted nature trail St. Thomas leads for 2.5 kilometres through the Heilenbach Valley in the protected landscape area “Between the Ueß and Kyll”.

Trails

The St. Thomas Monastery Loop follows the Kyll Valley around Sankt Thomas.

Between wooded sections, the Monastery Loop offers expansive views over the Kyll Valley.

A viewpoint in Sankt Thomas in the Kyll Valley has a bench for resting.

The hiking and cycling trails include routes with viewpoints around Sankt Thomas; circular routes start both in Sankt Thomas and in nearby Kyllburg.
