Oberstedem: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

History

Oberstedem was first documented in the Prüm Urbar of 893 as “Stedehym.” The present-day Church of St. Brictius was rebuilt in 1951/52, replacing a predecessor building from 1808 that stood at the cemetery.

The church interior contains a Neo-Gothic altar; its mensa and superstructure come from the former village church. The furnishings also include a Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child from the first half of the 15th century and a Baroque stone statue of St. Brictius.

The interior furnishings of St. Brictius are listed in the register of cultural monuments of the Eifel District. St. Brictius is designated as a legally protected cultural monument under Section 8 of the Monument Protection Act of Rhineland-Palatinate. The properties at Hauptstraße 12, 14, and 16 are also listed as monuments.

Culture

The Glass Museum presents exhibitions on the 2,000-year history of glass. A second small museum in Oberstedem is dedicated to the history of the glassworks of the Rhineland from the past century. The tradition of the glassworks of the Rhineland presented there is traced back to the heyday of Roman glassmaking.

The United Museums at Jacobshof are located at Hauptstraße 16 in Oberstedem.

Nature

The local area of Oberstedem includes 82 hectares of forest. The landscape of the Bitburg region comprises sunny uplands, deeply incised river valleys, and open forests. The South Eifel Nature Park is part of the cross-border German-Luxembourg Nature Park.

The Bitburg region offers excellent hiking trails in the NaturWanderPark delux as well as cycling routes along river valleys. The Bitburg region tourist area highlights the Roman Villa Otrang near Fließem as an example of preserved Roman traces. In the surrounding area, small distilleries offer visitors the opportunity to learn about schnapps distilling.
