Culture and History

Harspelt is home to several historic landmarks. St. Maria Geburt is a hall church built in 1741. At the entrance to the churchyard stands a slate cross with a horizontal beam, probably dating from the first half of the 19th century. The churchyard also contains four slate gravestones for pastors from the late 18th and 19th centuries. A tall, richly carved wooden cross stands at Dorfstraße 18 and is dated 1819 or 1929. West of Harspelt, on the road to Sevenig, there is a shaft cross decorated with reliefs dating from the 17th century.

Hiking and Trails

The Islek Pfädchen – Mühlenrunde Lützkampen is a 6.2 km-long hiking route. It leads from Lützkampen past the Harspelter Mühle, along the Irsen to the Lützkämper Mühle, and back to the village. The Mühlenrunde includes the former Harspelter Mühle and the Lützkämper Mühle; both are located on the Irsen. Along parts of the Mühlenrunde in the Irsen valley, traces of the 2018 flood are still visible. The route also includes demolished Westwall bunkers and anti-tank barriers. The Islek Pfädchen routes have no trail markings or information signs, so visitors should follow the route description or use GPS navigation.

Border Region

The Welchenhausen Sculpture Trail leads from Stupbach through Welchenhausen to the tripoint area near Ouren. Nat'Our Route 1 is a cross-border circular trail along the Our to the European Monument in Ouren. The European Monument stands where Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium meet; a bridge crosses the tripoint area. It commemorates the founding of the European Community in 1957 and consists of five stones.
