History and culture

Dodenburg was first mentioned in the 13th century. The village was a castle fief of Neuerburg, located east of Wittlich, and changed hands several times over the course of its history.

The village heritage includes a bell tower with a bell cast in 1557; the current tower was donated to the municipality in 1952. Dodenburg Castle is privately owned. Its wall and outbuildings are protected as historic monuments.

Recurring local events include Kirmeskaffee, a women's breakfast during Carnival, Witches' Night with the traditional Maypole-raising ceremony, a St. Nicholas celebration, a St. Martin's procession, and an afternoon for senior citizens.

In the village

There is a large children's playground in the village center. A private fishing pond can be used for a fee, and a barbecue hut can also be rented.

Since 2023, Dodenburg has had no dining establishments. Two holiday homes offer overnight accommodation in Dodenburg. There are currently no motorhome pitches in the village.

The Bürgerbus offers rides within the Wittlich-Land collective municipality and in the city of Wittlich. It is a free service provided by the Wittlich-Land collective municipality.
